Mashed Potatoes & Gravy/Useful, Practical Food in the RV

Mashed potatoes and gravy can be a quick comfort-food meal or a fast side dish.

Hello there, Rambling foodies! Today we will talk about easy comfort food in RV mashed potatoes & gravy dishes. The best part- you can whip up your RV: instant potatoes with white gravy and they only take a minute. Perfect home-cooked meal after a long travel day.

Now, I know some of you might be thinking, “Instant potatoes? That’s not real cooking!” But hear me out – when done right, instant mashed potatoes can be just as satisfying and delicious as the real thing. And when paired with a rich and creamy white gravy, they make for a comforting and hearty meal that’s perfect for any time of day.

First things first, let’s talk about the food- mashed potatoes themselves. For this recipe, we’ll be using instant mashed potatoes. Now, I know some of you might be skeptical – after all-instant potatoes are often associated with blandness and lack of flavor. But with a couple of simple techniques, you can take your instant potatoes from boring to downright delicious. Add your mashed potatoes to some home-made gravy and you are in comfort-food heaven!

Here’s what you’ll need in the RV:

Ingredients for Mashed Potatoes:

Instant mashed potatoes (enough for 4 servings)
Milk (amount according to package instructions)
Butter (amount according to package instructions)
Salt and pepper to taste

White gravy (recipe below)

Directions for Mashed Potatoes:

Once you have the ingredients together, prepare your instant mashed potatoes according to the package instructions. Additionally, you will want to add enough milk and butter to make the mashed potatoes creamy and flavorful, this is what makes it comfort food! Moreover, don’t be afraid to add extra seasonings like salt, pepper, and garlic powder to give them a little extra kick. (I frequently mix some shredded Vermont White Cheddar for a great surprise to the diners.)

While your potatoes are cooking, prepare your white gravy. Here’s a simple recipe that you can make in a flash:

White Gravy Ingredients:

2 tbsp butter
2 tbsp all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
Salt and pepper to taste

White Gravy Directions:

Melt the butter in a skillet over medium heat.

Add the flour and whisk until smooth. (For more flavorful gravy, you can let the gravy brown slightly in the skillet. This is called rue, and it can be the base for many different dishes and soups.)

Gradually whisk in the milk, stirring constantly until the mixture is smooth and bubbly.

Season with salt and pepper to taste, and continue cooking and stirring until the gravy is thick and creamy.

Once your potatoes and gravy are ready, it’s time to combine them in a skillet. Heat up your skillet over medium-high heat, and add your prepared mashed potatoes.

Pour your white gravy over the potatoes. Don’t stir them together. They look and taste better when allowed to retain heterogeneity.

Poof! Just Like That, the Mashed Potatoes & Gravy are Ready to Serve!

And that’s it – a delicious and easy dish you can whip up in no time. Comfort food in your RV, mashed potatoes & gravy will make all your friends envious! The creaminess of the potatoes pairs perfectly with the rich and savory white gravy, making for a satisfying and comforting meal that’s perfect for any occasion. So next time you’re in need of a quick and easy idea, give this recipe a try – I promise you won’t be disappointed!
